Mine was fine for weeks until just the other day, right about when the MalwareBytes Pro trial ended. I did the same to my girlfriends laptop but hers never improved. Initially I fixed my computer by updating windows, installing a trial of MalwareBytes Pro, and running Panda Cloud Scanner.
While this is happening, if we try to open something like My Videos, the window opens, but nothing is show and the loading bar up the top slowly fills up, and once the internet finally loads, then our computers stop hanging. We get the message "Waiting for cache." and it just sits there for over a minute before finally everything loads up. It becomes most prominent when using the internet. We both have periods where our computers hang, nothing loads, nothing opens, not even task manager, for minutes, sometimes up to 10 minutes just after waking it up or start up, but normally just about 1 or 2.
